The morning you build before anyone's awake

Brennon Jackson · Founder, Eyegasmic ·

A man in a linen shirt buttons his cuff at a stone vanity in the last dark before sunrise.

Nobody sees the first hour. That is the point of it.

Most men are handed a morning by their phone. An alert, a headline, someone else's urgency, and by the time the coffee is made the day has already decided what you're going to be. A ritual is the opposite. It is a small set of decisions you make once, and then simply keep.

It does not have to be long. It has to be yours, and it has to be the same.

Start with the mirror. Not vanity: inventory. Look at the man standing there, and let the next twenty minutes be about him. Water. Something for your skin. Clothes laid out the night before, so that no one has to think. A single thing you'll do with your body before you do anything for anyone else.

Then leave the phone where it is.

What this builds isn't productivity. It is presence. When you've already met your standard before sunrise, nothing the day throws at you can take it back. You walk into the room having already won the only argument that mattered.

Keep it small enough that you never skip it. A ritual you keep for a year outweighs a routine you abandon in a week.

Some things are better done quietly. This is one of them.
